Mixed Emotions and Mixed Feelings...

I literally had no idea what I was going to write about today, but God always comes through. I was speaking out loud to someone and the thought of "Mixed Emotions", came right out.

Is anyone dealing with mixed emotions and their feelings being all over the place right now? I know that I am. There are times within minutes when I will be sad and then think of something and smile. There are other moments when I'm just ok or melancholy or "meh" yet, I can still be grateful. There are times when anger and confusion creep in; I try not to let those linger. They can turn into something else rather quickly. Just like the image, I feel like a big 'ole box of mixed emotions. My feelings are neutral, emotional, content... They run the gamut.

I wanted someone to know, that you are not alone and that your ups and downs; all over the place and random emotions are not unusual. We are living in unusual times. The world has literally changed for us and we had no warning.

If you are sad, allow the sadness. If you feel happy and joyous, don't feel guilty about it. If you feel confused and feel anger, let it be for a little while and then change that channel. If a moment of anxiety seems to get the best of you, take a pause and a few deep breaths and move away from that which is making you anxious.

We are made up of a ton of emotions and when everything shifts with the blink of an eye, it may be difficult to get them in check. I want you to recognize your emotions and feelings; sit with them and reflect on why they may be happening in that moment. Think about writing your feelings and emotions down in a journal. Describe how your body feels with each emotion.

We are dealing with loss of all kinds; loss of jobs, loss of human touch, loss of routines, loss of gatherings and loss of life. A box full of mixed emotions seems to be about right for all of us.

Try your best not to allow your emotions to control you; you control them. Sit with them, feel them and understand them. They are not wrong. They are not out of the ordinary and they are not unusual.

If you feel like your emotions and feelings are getting the best of you and have begun to control you, consider reaching out for professional help.

Happy Mother's Day!

Stay well and stay safe.
