The peace of Sunday...

Sunday is often the day of rest for many. It's the day of worship, family time, long drives and "Sunday naps". But it is also the day of preparation for the week ahead. It can turn into an evening of household hustle and bustle. We have to get the clothes ready, pack lunches, get the kids ready, read emails and on and on. What do we do to relax our minds? How do we turn off the hectic time of preparation; the preparation that seems to have ended your joyful and relaxing day? If we want to be totally healthy we have to relax our minds as well. Too often our minds are swirling with all of the many things we have to do and we rarely shut them down. Even while we are sleeping our minds are swirling; never allowing them to rest.

Here's what I've begun to do. Sunday is "my day". I worship, grocery shop, eat, rest, prepare and rest again. After the preparation for the work week I set aside time to reflect and relax my brain; usually around 7pm. I turn off the television and may put on some soft music and take a relaxing bath. In my bedroom I have the essential oil diffuser filled with lavender oil plugged in and relaxing scented candles in other rooms. Prior to getting in the bed by 8:30 PM, I spray my pillows and bed with a pillow mist to help me ease into my relaxation. While in bed I sip either chamomile or "sleepy time" tea. I may watch television, read or write. My mind is free of anything related to work or what I have to accomplish the next day. I'm simply freeing and easing my mind from any worry or stress.

Take time to free your mind. A stressed mind is an unhealthy mind. It can not function properly. You can burn out your mind the same way that you burn out your body; from being overworked. Allow your mind to rest and refresh. Clear it out so that it is ready to work for you.

Total health is a healthy MIND, body and spirit.
